Westar Energy provides electric service to 400,000 residential and commercial customers. I was the lead digital strategist on the complete revamp of Westar’s public website. This massive effort required review of traffic analytics for over 800 pages of content from the old sites (three sites where consolidated into the new site). The new IA was based on analytics combined with card sorting research we conducted with consumer and business audience members. Responsive design was used to optimize the user experience for all devices. I created a design strategy deck that provides a brief overview of the project. Axure prototypes where developed for many phases of the UX design, including user profile management for customers with single as well as multiple electric accounts.
I’m very proud of the fact that the Westar site was ranked in the top three of 66 utility websites in the J.D. Power and Associates 2015 Utility Website Evaluation Study. This study collected responses from 14,557 participants and measured desktop and mobile websites of the largest electric and/or gas utilities.
